On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Department of Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources at the Faculty of Engineering, Sabratha, organized an awareness workshop titled "Emerging Environmental Pollutants and Drinking Water Quality."

The event was attended by a select group of faculty members, engineers, department students, and a number of visitors and environmental enthusiasts. The workshop featured a virtual scientific presentation via Zoom by Dr. Adel Al-Ghaithi, Chairman of the Board of the Arab Network for Combating Emerging Environmental Pollutants, Associate Professor in Environmental Technologies, and researcher at the Micro-Pollutants Center at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering, Tun Hussein Onn University in Malaysia.

Another key contribution came from Mr. Tareq Moftah Hassan, faculty member at the Faculty of Science in Sabratha and expert in water analysis, who delivered a presentation titled “Drinking Water: Pros and Cons.” The workshop witnessed significant interaction and included a hands-on field analysis of various water samples—such as domestic, groundwater, and bottled water—to assess their compliance with safety and quality standards.

This scientific activity provided participants with exposure to environmental analysis techniques, emphasized the importance of monitoring drinking water quality, and highlighted the early detection of emerging pollutants and their impact on public health. At the conclusion, attendees expressed their appreciation for the quality of organization and scientific content presented, stressing the importance of such events in raising environmental awareness and reinforcing the department’s role in addressing local environmental issues.
